We left Punto Arenas and proceeded north along the Pacific coast of Chile.  We had some sea days before we got to Puerto Montt, Chile.  Our ship could not dock there, so anchored in the bay,  and we took the ship tenders to shore and back to the ship again that day.  We used the tenders at the Falklands also.  We arranged to go on a small tour from Puerto Montt to Fruitillar, a little German town on  beautiful Lake Llanquihue.  Across the lake are volcanic mountains, but they were hidden in clouds most of the day we were in that area.  We went to an artisans show in a school that was out for the summer vacation.  They had a lot of hand made items for sale.  We walked through the town.  Then we went to Puerto Varas, another German town, called the Rose City because it has roses lining most of the streets in town.  It is also on the same large lake as Fruitillar.  We walked around town a lot.  Then we came back to Puerto Montt and toured around that city.  We also walked a lot there before we went back to the port and took a tender back to the Veendam.  Late that afternoon, as our ship was leaving Puerto Montt, we could see a bit of those mountains peeking out of the clouds.
