After we left Ushuaia, we traveled through a beautiful area called Glacier Allley on our way to Punto Arenas, Chile.  When we got to Punto Arenas, we went to the Magellan Penguin area.  These penguins live in little burrows for each family scattered across the terrain.  The penguins under 5 years of age hang out together on the beach and socialize while they are choosing a mate for life.  If a mate dies, the remaining mate goes back with the young ones to find a new mate.  Penguins usually live 10-15 years.  The Magellan penguins were not noisy or smelly like the Gentoo penguins.  We walked a few miles around on the boardwalk trails amongst the penguins.   One of my favorite activities is watching the penguins.   A replica of Magellan's ship is in Punto Arenas.  It does not look very big.    We saw a lot of birds and ducks in this area too.  Saw a rhea which is a large bird in the same family as emus and ostriches.  It is smaller, but still quite big and cannot fly.
The one we saw was inside a fence.
