Activities of Charles and Janie Cutting

January 2006

We had a wonderful Christmas holiday season with all of our kids and grandkids in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area back and forth between our house and Cheryl and Kent's house which is 29 miles from us.

In January Cheryl and Kent took 8 of Kent's students from Whitworth University in Spokane to India on an educational tour, and they also got to see many interesting places. While they were gone most of January, I took care of Melissa and Rylan making sure they got to school and other appointments, and we had fun in the snow, etc. Kent's folks came and helped with the kids the last week too.

In the meantime, Carey had asked Charles to come and spend some time at their home in Sacramento, CA and help with remodeling of their kitchen. So he kept busy there. After Cheryl and Kent returned home the end of January, I drove down to Carey's also via Shelly's in Portland, OR.

Charles and I went to Southern California and did a marathon in Huntington Beach, we spent a delightful week in Palm Springs, we enjoyed visiting many of our friends and appreciated the hospitality of Melody Glass while in Loma Linda area, we spent another fun week on California's central coast and met up with cousins Marsha and Bob and friends Lida and Mike and enjoyed doing things with them. Back to Sacramento to help Carey, who, by then, was in her last month of pregnancy and becoming uncomfortable. Baby Kyler was determined to come early, but we weren't sure how soon. The Los Angeles Marathon was on March 19, and we needed to do that because we have done all 20 of the previous ones, so had to keep up with our Legacy Runner tradition with that particular marathon. Charles left Sacramento so he could pick up our race numbers, etc. on the 17th. I stayed on with Carey and Greg to see if the baby would actually be born before I needed to be in LA. Carey had been having contractions off and on which got more serious early morning of the 18th. So we took her to the birthing center about 4:00 AM and the baby came at 9:14 AM. So what a joy to welcome a new grandbaby and to be in the delivery room, to see him get his first bath and to hold and cuddle him before I headed off to Los Angeles that afternoon in time to be there for the marathon.
